Description
During the past several years, I have visited many so-called “Christian Book Stores” and I couldn’t help but notice the increasingly large number of commentaries and theses dealing with the many various aspects of “doctrinal truth.” Closer scrutiny revealed that many authors, spiritual and scholarly though they may profess to be, have taken and presented their positions in diametrical opposition to one another. To some extent this can be expected, but even though they may differ on some doctrinal tenets, they usually agree as to the means of salvation—faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone.
Perhaps that is the reason that, in contrast, there are very few books written to help the preacher present the Gospel of God’s grace. Most authors seem to be more interested in propagating their viewpoints of doctrine, other than the Gospel, in order to enlighten or influence the reader who is usually already a professing Christian.
The purpose of this book is not to encourage laziness on the part of the Gospel preacher, but rather to generate a further desire to present the Gospel in a Scripturally logical manner. There is no good reason for the message to be a “hodge-podge” of disconnected thought interspersed with oft-times irrelevant anecdotes. In Ecclesiastes 12:9 we read, “And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.”
